Blair SGA Online

On March 5, MCR SGA (Montgomery County Regional Student Government Association) hosted the SMOB nominating convention at James Hubert Blake High School. Richard Montgomery High School junior Jiayi Yang and Thomas S. Wootton High School junior Tim Hwang were selected as the final two candidates for the position of Student Member of the Board during the 2009-2010 school year.

At the convention, Yang and Hwang, as well as Blair junior Andrew Hyder, Einstein’s Long Nguyen, and Paint Branch sophomore Zoe Owrutsky gave speeches and answered questions from audience members. The audience was composed of 180 members from Montgomery County middle and high school SGAs.

On April 29, all Montgomery County Public Schools secondary students will have the opportunity to vote for one of the two candidates to serve as their 32nd Student Representative of the Board of Education.

Monday February 2: Pajama Day
- Wear your Favorite PJs to school!
- No underwear used for outerwear.

Tuesday - Feb 3: Time Travel Tuesday
- It’s a blast from the past or future from ANY decade you want! Dress up as a dinosaur, a hippie, or even an alien from the future.

Wednesday - Feb 4th: Wacky Tacky Wednesday
- Wear the ugliest and tackiest clothes you can find!

Thursday - Feb 5th: Movie/TV Character Day
- Dress up as your favorite cartoon character, superhero, movie character, TV character, etc. etc.

Friday - Feb 6th: Class Color Day
- Freshman & Sophomore are black, Juniors are white, Seniors are red. Show your school spirit at the pep rally!

There will be two winners (1 boy, 1 girl) for each day. Come to the SGA office (Rm 161) during your 5A or 5B lunch with your costume to qualify. Winners will receive one free ticket to the 2009 Winter Formal on February 7th, so step yo game up!

Due to the holidays November 3, 2008 and November 4, 2008, Spirit Week will start on Thursday, October 30, 2008. The days will be as follows:

Thursday, October 30, 2008: Kindergarten Day
Friday, October 31, 2008: Halloween Costume Day
Wednesday, November 5, 2008: Kickin’ It Old School / Retro Day
Thursday, November 6, 2008: Class Theme Day (refer to Homecoming themes)
Friday, November 7, 2008: Class Color Day (Seniors-Red, Juniors-White, Freshmen and Sophomores-Black)

Homecoming Tickets will be on sale starting Monday, October 27, 2008 during 5A and 5B lunches from the SGA window in the SAC courtyard. Tickets are $10, and you must have paid off all obligations to purchase a ticket. Students planning to invite a guest from a school other than Montgomery Blair High School must submit a Homecoming Guest Approval form to Staff Development (Room 120), or the SGA Office (Room 161) by Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 3:00pm.

The theme for this year’s Homecoming Dance is “A Night at the Movies”. Classes are assigned individual genres. Seniors are Animated, Juniors are Superheros, Sophomores are Sci-Fi, and Freshmen are Western. The dance will take place on Saturday, November 8, 2008 from 8pm to 11pm in the Student Activities Center.

Elections for the class of 2012 will be held the week of September 22-26, 2008. All freshmen will attend a Candidate Speeches assembly during second period, Wednesday, September 24, 2008. Elections will be held throughout the day during History classes on Thursday, September 25 and Friday, September 26, 2008.

The Varsity Football team has their first home game on September 12th at 6:30 in the stadium.  Come and support our Blazers as they take on Northwood in the Battle of the Boulevard!

Arrive at 5:00 to enjoy music, food, and prizes at the tailgate party in the courtyard, then head to the stadium to watch the game!  Don’t forget to wear red!

There will be an outdoor pep rally on Friday, September 12 in the football stadium.  Wear red in support your fall sports teams!

The Freshman Barbecue will be held Thursday, August 21 at 7:00pm on the MBHS practice field.  SGA members are encouraged to attend as this is a great opportunity to meet and greet incoming freshmen.
